About LagerboxFyn

LagerboxFyn was founded in 2011 by Mogens and Lene Milling, starting with a single self-storage location in Svendborg, Denmark. The business has since expanded across the island of Fyn, with facilities in Svendborg, Ringe, Nyborg and Faaborg.

Today the next generation runs the company. Tanja Milling manages rentals and administration from the Svendborg head office, while Henrik Kjærtinge has been driving development and expansion since 2019.

As a smaller, family-owned operator, LagerboxFyn depends on efficient daily processes — but close customer relationships are equally part of how they win and keep customers. Any digital change had to support both.

The Challenge: Two Generations, Two Customer Journeys

Self-storage customers don’t all want the same thing — and LagerboxFyn could see this clearly in their own customer base.

On one side, an older segment that values reassurance and personal contact. Often downsizing from a house to an apartment, these customers want to see the facility, ask questions, and meet the people who’ll be looking after their belongings before they commit.

On the other side, a younger segment that expects to handle everything online. And LagerboxFyn’s own booking data confirms it: digital bookings come almost entirely from younger renters.

The challenge was clear: how do you serve both segments well without picking one and losing the other? A pure-digital model would alienate older customers. A purely manual, in-person model would lose digital-native renters to faster competitors.

The Solution: Digital Booking as a Supplement, Not a Replacement

Rather than forcing a single customer journey, LagerboxFyn implemented a hybrid model powered by Sharefox — where digital self-service and personal contact run in parallel.

One of the clearest insights from LagerboxFyn is how much trust drives the storage decision — well beyond price and availability.

This is exactly why a hybrid model converts better than a pure-digital model for this segment. The website handles discovery, comparison and booking; the in-person visit handles trust. Each channel does what it does best. Pushing a trust-driven customer through a self-checkout would lose the sale; pushing a digital-native customer into a phone call would do the same.

Implementation

LagerboxFyn launched a new digital rental site for self-storage, with online discovery, real-time availability, calendar booking and payments unified in a single flow. The system covers all four locations on Fyn from one administrative view.

Importantly, the platform also functions as a booking tool for personal viewings — channelling trust-driven leads into a structured calendar instead of unscheduled phone calls and email back-and-forth. The “personal” channel becomes more efficient too, not just the digital one.
